GLOBAL TOURISM INNOVATION CHALLENGE (GTIC) 2023

Global Tourism Innovation Challenge GTIC (GTIC2023) is organised by Faculty of Business, Economics and Social Development (FBESD) of Universiti Malaysia Terengganu (UMT). GTIC2023 is an innovation competition which is held in conjunction with Global Tourism Conference 2023 (GTC2023). It’s obvious that GTIC2023 is motivated by the previous success of GTCs. Although GTCs were held several times before, this year (2023) is the first year for GTIC!

GTIC2023 focuses on the idea, framework, process, design and product innovation not only among professionals (academia, staff and industry), but also among students (university, college, institute and school students) from science and social science backgrounds. The challenge will be judged by internal and external juries from the industry and academia with experiences in innovation, research and commercialisation. The theme of GTIC2023 is “Tourism, Hospitality and Entrepreneurship”.

The aims of GTIC2023 are two-fold, to cultivate innovation excellence towards commercialization culture and to encourage networking of local and international inventors as well as researchers. By participating face-to-face in GTIC2023, you are entitled to free conference dinner and a chance to win many prizes, including vacation packages* from various tourism players and a prize from *HABIB Jewels!

Call for Submission:

GTIC2023 enthusiastically invites participation from a diverse range of science and social science disciplines including, but not limited to, tourism & hospitality, marketing, policy, finance, business, information technology, engineering, environmental science, data analytics, artificial intelligence, and food science.

Come and join us as we embark on this exciting journey of innovation and exploration in the field of tourism!

 

TERM AND CONDITIONS

  • GTIC2023 is open to individuals or groups (not more than 7 members).
  • To confirm participation in GTIC2023, registration via Google Form is mandatory. No changes to the title are allowed after registering.
  • All participants must submit an abstract (250 words limit), a video presentation (5-minute limit), and payment when registering. The payment is non-refundable should one decide to withdraw from the challenge.
  • For face-to-face participants, in addition to abstract and video submission, a 5-minute poster presentation will be held on the 27th of Sept 2023 at Universiti Malaysia Terengganu. Participants must design their posters (according to the organiser’s format), print, and bring them for presentation.
  • All participants will receive an e-Certificate. Only one (1) medal will be given to the winners for every innovation submission. The additional medal may be purchased at RM60 each.
  • Judges’ decision is final and irrevocable. GTIC2023 winners will be announced during the Closing Ceremony (Conference Dinner) of the Global Tourism Conference 2023

FACE-TO-FACE VIDEO & POSTER PRESENTATION GUIDELINES

Dates:

Video submission deadline: 31st August 2023

Face-to-face poster presentation: 27th September 2023

 

Video Submission Guideline:

All presenters are required to upload a 5-minute video on YouTube, and submit the link of the video via Google Form (CLICK HERE for submission).

  1. Please include a title page for your video (CLICK HERE for the template). The title page must only contain:
  • Research title
  • GTIC ID
  1. Please make sure that the video presentation is anonymous with no identification of the presenters, names, profile and affiliation (voice over audio only is allowed).
  2. The content of your video presentation should include the following:
  • Cover Page (Template GTIC as per attached)
  • Introduction
  • Problem Statement
  • Objectives
  • Method of Implementation
  • Impacts to Organization
  • Novelty
  1. Video presentation should not be more than 1GB
  2. Video presentation could be in BM or English
  3. Resolution of the video: Minimum 720p resolution settings.
  4. Audio must be clear and direct to the point.
  5. Video assessment criteria (3 main criteria):
  • Innovation and usability (50%)
  • Creativity & originality
  • Practicality and easy-to-use
  • Cost-effectiveness
  • Potential
  • Impact on the industry (30%)
  • Presentation and Q&A (20%)
  1. The video needs to be uploaded on the YouTube.
  2. The deadline for submitting your finalised video is on the 31st August 2023.
  3. The decisions of the judges are final. All decisions are final.

Face-to-face poster presentation guideline:

The poster presentation will be held on the 27th of September 2023. You will be given 5 minutes to present poster presentation to the judge, and it will be followed by a 5-minute Q&A session with the judge.

 

  1. Poster size – A1
  2. Please use the GTIC2023 poster format (CLICK HERE for the template).
  3. Presenters need to print the poster and bring to the presentation venue.
  4. You may bring your own product, prototype or materials for the presentation.
  5. A small table for project material will be provided for each group.
  6. Please bring your own extension (if needed).

Duration of presentation – 5 minutes, followed by a 5-minute Q&A session

Live Q&A Session Guideline:

The live Q&A session will be held on the 13th of September 2023 through Webex parallel session (Q&A schedule and Webex link will be provided later). During the 5-minute Q&A session, you will be requested to unmute your microphone, on your web camera, and answer questions from the audience through your screen.
